Style Guide
I know how exciting taking photos is and how stressful the experience can be. I am here to walk you through it every step of the way. I hope we can push the stress to side and just have fun and capture whatever the day brings even ifs weather or bad hair day.
For your attire, leave those yoga pants, cargo shorts, and flip-flops for Netflix and the grocery store. Bring out the dresses, slacks, button-ups, and accessories! Lighter tones and colors for dresses, skirts, and shirts tend to create a better final product. Prints are great but try to limit the number of contrasting prints. For example, plaid, polka dot, camo, and floral may not mesh well together. Colors that blend in a palette is best! Not everyone has to wear the same color, for instance. For your feet, choose something nice that enables you to walk on grass easily. Accessories are great for jazzing up your outfit, such as necklaces, blazers, hats, suspenders, scarves, etc. To help ensure clothes do not wrinkle on the drive, keep your freshly ironed (or Febreezed if you are like me) clothes looking good on the hanger. When you arrive, you can then put on the final wardrobe. Same with littles, it helps to dress them last minute and do any quick hair fixes when you arrive at the session. Just be sure to allow extra time before our start time.
Hair and makeup are also nice finishing touches to great photos. Wear it how you feel the most comfortable. During the session, I may have you run your fingers through your hair, have hubby brush it to the side, etc. so leave a couple of pieces to play with if possible. I will get some pretty tight shots so nice, “natural” or glammed-up looks are great for makeup! The main thing to keep in mind is you want to look like the best version of YOU!
For the kiddos, snacks (cheerios, animal crackers, pretzels, etc.) and cold water are great if they need a break. Also, a favorite toy/stuffy is fantastic for comforting the littles. Having full bellies before beginning the session aids in alleviating potential hangry situations. Bribes are also nice tricks to pull out if all else fails! It’s the only way I can get my three-year-old to cooperate for pictures most of the time. A snack bag of mini marshmallows, Tic Tacs, Skittles, and a special dessert after the session are some of the things I have tried! Try to avoid anything really messy, like chocolate, black frosting, Cheetos, etc. If the weather is cooler, please bring a coat, and we can put them on in-between shots. Especially for the littles, we want to keep them warm and happy. We want EVERYONE to have a good time and hope that it goes as smoothly as possible.
Also, remember that whatever style of clothes you choose will add a lot to the end product. It sets the tone for the shoot. For instance, fall colors to help capture autumn’s beauty, neutrals to hang up in your house, or jewel tones in winter to help pop against the snow.
